COLUMBUS — State Senator Kevin Bacon (R- Village of Minerva Park) has been selected to chair the newly-created Senate Commerce & Labor Committee for the 130th General Assembly by Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R- Celina).  In addition, Bacon will serve as Vice-Chair of the Insurance & Financial Institutions Committee.

“As my colleagues and I look to build upon our earlier efforts to make Ohio more business-friendly, the work of the Commerce & Labor Committee will play a key role in ensuring businesses can grow and thrive in our state,” Bacon said. “I look forward to utilizing my previous experience as Chairman as we examine these and other business-related issues in the weeks and months ahead in our efforts to help move Ohio forward.”

Bacon served as Chairman of the Senate Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee during the previous General Assembly. President Faber announced the separation of the panels into separate entities earlier this month as part of his restructuring of Senate Committees to better align them with the Senate’s legislative priorities for the new General Assembly.

In addition, Bacon will serve as a member of the Public Safety, Local Government & Veterans Affairs Committee, the State Government Oversight & Reform Committee, the Civil Justice Committee, the Reference Committee, and the Finance Subcommittee on Medicaid.

Bacon is currently serving his first term in the Ohio Senate after serving two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. He also served as a Blendon Township Trustee and worked for the Ohio Department of Commerce and the Lancaster City Attorney’s Office. When not tending to legislative matters, Bacon is a practicing attorney specializing in estate planning and real estate law.
