Senator Kevin Bacon and colleagues honor the Ohio State synchronized swimming team

The Ohio Senate today recognized the Ohio State synchronized swimming team for winning the U.S. Collegiate National Championship in Columbus this season. State Senators Kevin Bacon (R-Minerva Park) and Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) joined colleagues in honoring Head Coach Holly Vargo-Brown and the members of the team for their accomplishments.

"Coach Vargo-Brown and her team should be very proud of their outstanding performance in the national competition," said Bacon. "The discipline and dedication of these young women is remarkable."

The Buckeyes bested top defending champion Lindenwood 93.0 to 89.0 to win the 29th championship title in the program's history. Standout team members Lorraine Hack, Alyssa Hoying and Monica Velasquez-Stiak won the silver medal with a season-best 86.0333 score for their trio routine. Trio Emma Baranski, Elizabeth Davidson and Khadija Zanotto earned a season-best 85.6333 to land in third place.

"We are honored to celebrate the team's much-deserved victory today," said Hughes. "With an unprecedented 29 championships, OSU's synchronized swimming program continues to break records and solidify its place in the history books."
