COLUMBUS -

State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) today announced the passage of legislation aimed at redirecting public funding away from any entity associated with performing abortions in Ohio and instead directs those taxpayer dollars to the hundreds of community and alternative health care centers across Ohio that provide comprehensive women’s and children’s health services.

"I am proud to have cosponsored this legislation that ensures Ohio’s taxpayer dollars are spent on vital health services for women and children,” said Beagle. “These funds will now be redirected to other organizations that are committed to the well-being and care of all women and children at all stages of life.”

The legislation stems from recently released videos that show officials at Planned Parenthood seeking to profit off of the sale of body parts of unborn children. The Center for Medical Progress showed through their investigation that Planned Parenthood officials were negotiating the sale of body parts from unborn babies as well as describing the process in which body parts could be harvested once a deal was agreed upon.

This legislation continues the commitment of Ohio Senate Republicans to vital women's health services included in the FY 2016-17 state budget that sustained funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings at alternative clinics that to do not provide abortions.

The state of Ohio gave $1.3 million in taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood alone in 2014. Currently, none of the twenty-five Planned Parenthood clinics in Ohio provide prenatal care or mammograms. According to Planned Parenthood’s Annual Report, 94% of their services to pregnant women are abortions.

Senate Bill 214 passed the Senate by a vote of 23-10 and now awaits passage by the Ohio House of Representatives.
