Columbus -
The State Controlling Board today announced that a total of $10 million will be released over the next two years to help bolster ongoing job creation and commercialization efforts at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) and Springfield Air National Guard Base (SANG). In addition, the Wright State Applied Research Corporation has agreed to provide roughly $900,000 in matching funds for both fiscal year 2012 and 2013. State Senator Bill Beagle (R - Tipp City) expressed what this latest investment means for Southwest Ohio. "It has long been a priority to one day turn the Dayton region into the nation's epicenter for aeronautics and aerospace systems," Beagle said. "These workforce dollars should bring us a few steps closer toward achieving that goal. Our part of the state continues to be a highly-desired place for aircraft research and production and we must continue our work to keep it that way for decades to come." The funds will also help in increasing the military value of both airbases and the NASA Glenn Research Center in order to prepare for possible base realignments that may occur in the future. Aside from planned regional activity, the funding stream is expected to play a part in stimulating future technology development at research sites throughout Ohio. Prior to receiving approval from the Ohio Controlling Board, the project garnered endorsement on behalf of the Development Financing Advisory Council (DFAC).
Senator Bill Beagle serves the people of Ohio's 5th Senate District, which includes Miami County and portions of Montgomery and Darke Counties.
