DAYTON — Midwest retailer Meijer has declared its intent to build the company’s first Ohio-based dairy production facility in the Dayton region. The new Tipp City plant will employ 103 Ohioans who will work to help produce milk and a variety of other dairy products for Meijer stores.

“We are excited to announce Meijer’s commitment to the Dayton region,” said Jeff Hoagland, president and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition.

Meijer, a family-owned company headquartered in Grand Rapids, Mich., operates 204 supercenters and grocery stores in the Midwest and employs more than 60,000 people across Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Michigan.

“Meijer is very pleased to continue our investment and growth in Ohio,” said Rick Keyes, executive vice president of Supply Chain Operations & Manufacturing for the retailer. “With 42 stores and a major distribution complex, Ohio is a very important state for us. This new facility in Tipp City will help support our continued growth as a company as well as our continued success in Ohio.”

“Having Meijer choose to locate its newest dairy production facility here in Ohio over other Midwest locations reflects the state’s attractive business climate and strength of its food processing industry,” said John Minor, president and chief investment officer for JobsOhio. “In collaboration with our regional partner, the Dayton Development Coalition, along with Tipp City, and Miami County, we were able to win this significant project and bring good jobs to the region.”

“Tipp City is excited that Meijer will be creating 103 jobs and investing $100 million in our community. They continue to be a great company and corporate citizen in Tipp City,” said Pat Hale, mayor of Tipp City.

“This is more great news for the region. It’s further evidence that we are positioning ourselves as the distribution and logistics hub of the Midwest,” said Bill Beagle, state senator.
