Columbus -
State Senator Bill Beagle (R- Tipp City) today announced his committee assignments for the 129th General Assembly. With a nod to Beagle's previous experience as a small business owner and his work in the banking and finance industry, Senate President Tom Niehaus (R- New Richmond) named him vice-chairman of the Senate Financial Institutions Committee and the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee. The Financial Institutions Committee is responsible for overseeing legislation impacting the regulation of financial institutions, including banks, credit unions, and savings and loans. Previously attached to the Senate Finance Committee, it was made a separate panel by Niehaus in order to ensure that important issues in this area did not take a back seat to the state budget process. The Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee discusses bills affecting state and local government revenues, tax collection and economic development. "The work of these committees will be crucial as the Legislature works to improve our economy and make Ohio's business atmosphere conducive to job creation and growth," Beagle said. "I am honored to have been chosen to serve on these committees and look forward to working with my colleagues as we seek to create a brighter future for our state." Beagle was also assigned to the Education Committee and the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee. These committees will play important roles in the months ahead, as Governor Kasich has indicated he will not be continuing the Evidence-Based Model for school funding implemented by former Governor Strickland and the Legislature continues to discuss the ramifications of the federal healthcare bill. "These and other issues will require a great deal of discussion and deliberation, but I am confident that by working together with the House and the Governor's office we can develop policies that will bring jobs to our communities, strengthen our schools and provide Ohioans with better choices about their health care," Beagle said.
