COLUMBUS– Senator Edna Brown (D – Toledo) announced the release of a new report on the application of Ohio’s death penalty. The report, conducted by University of North Carolina professor Dr. Frank R. Baumgartner, found that the race of the victim is strongly correlated with whether or not an individual receives the death penalty. If a homicide victim is white, there is a greater chance that the death penalty will be sought than if the victim is black. The disparity is even greater when factoring in gender; homicides involving white female victims are six times more likely to result in an execution than homicides involving black male victims.

Columbus-The Ohio Senate today passed Senate Bill 252, jointly sponsored by Senators Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) and Edna Brown (D-Toledo), which would make peace officers and firefighters diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) resulting from an on-the-job incident eligible for workers' compensation.

Columbus – Today, the Senate Transportation Committee voted (7-0) allowing Ohio motorists to provide proof of financial responsibility via a smart phone or other mobile electronic device during a traffic stop. If signed into law, Senate Bill 255, sponsored by State Senator Edna Brown (D-Toledo) would make Ohio the thirty-sixth state to pass similar legislation.
