COLUMBUS– The Ohio Senate today approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 23, sponsored by State Senator Dave Burke (R–Marysville), which names May 12, 2014 as “National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day” in Ohio.

“Increased awareness and knowledge about Fibromyalgia and its impact on our family, friends, and neighbors, will allow the community to better support and understand this chronic-pain illness,” stated Burke, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Medicaid.
There are millions of Americans who have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a chronic illness that causes debilitating pain and fatigue. Early detection is known to reduce the severity of symptoms.
The awareness day created by the resolution is intended to coincide with the National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association’s annual event, “Walk to Cure FM,” which is scheduled in Columbus this May.
The resolution will now proceed to the Ohio House of Representatives where it must also receive approval before becoming officially recognized by the state.
