COLUMBUS – Today, Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) called on Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Rob Portman and all Congressional representatives to do what they can to stop the deportation of Maribel Trujillo-Diaz to Mexico. Maribel is a working mother of four from Hamilton, Ohio. She is scheduled to be deported tomorrow, April 11th, despite years-long efforts by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to appeal to legislators on her behalf.
“The Trump administration is deporting peaceful, hardworking US residents with no apparent method or pattern. President Trump claimed his policies would target immigrants with criminal records, but the actions by ICE do not align with his stated policies,” said Senator Thomas. “How does deporting a working mom make America safer? This is unacceptable.”
Maribel is the primary provider for her family and children. She is employed full time in the U.S. and has a valid work permit. She has no criminal record and has checked in with the immigration office as requested. Maribel has also requested amnesty and faces safety concerns if she is returned to Mexico, where her father has been kidnapped by the cartels.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the organization Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) intends to appeal to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, seeking a stay to prevent Maribel’s imminent deportation.
