COLUMBUS - State Senator John Eklund (R-Munson Township) today announced the unanimous House passage of Senate Concurrent Resolution 8, which urges the United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to select Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center in Ravenna, Ohio, as the preferred site for a future east coast Missile Defense system.

A research, development, and acquisition agency within the Department of Defense, the MDA is responsible for the development, testing and deployment of resources to counter ballistic missiles of all ranges.

"Bringing the missile defense system to Ohio would create hundreds of high-paying jobs for our community," said Eklund. "I am happy to see the House take action on this important resolution that I hope will help secure a multi-billion dollar investment in Ohio, and also play an important role in our country's national defense strategy."

The MDA is currently considering sites for the installation of additional ground-based interceptors for homeland defense.  While similar missile defense sites already exist along the western seaboard of the US, no such sites exist along the eastern seaboard. Currently, the United States only has two missile defense sites with long-range interceptor missiles active—in Alaska and California.
