Every July 4, we gather with family and friends for barbeques, festivals, parades and fireworks.  More importantly, we remember the birth of this great nation and all that it represents.  Today is Independence Day and that is worth celebrating.
Our Founders displayed monumental determination and courage pledging their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to their noble endeavor.  That generation of Americans risked it all, opposing tyranny to create a new nation dedicated to the principle that all are created equal and should live under self-determination and freedom.  We are the inheritors of their legacy.  In the years since our nation’s founding each successive generation has sacrificed and innovated to pass on to their children a stronger, freer and more prosperous United States of America.
Now, in the 238th year of America’s independence, will our generation live up to the inherited responsibility passed to us by so many great patriots in our national lineage?  We have inherited this great American birthright, but will we carry on the tradition?  I say undeniably, yes. As a father of two young daughters, I pray that my generation and I are worthy of the sacrifices made by countless Americans before us.  We must answer the call to make this country stronger and more hopeful for the generations that follow us.  We will not be the first who fails to pass on a nation improved and strengthened by our efforts.  This is our responsibility and by working together we will keep this centuries old trust.
Today our fellow Ohioans are working to return our state to greatness.  Through strength and purpose, we’re working together to bring prosperity back to the Buckeye State.  Throughout Ohio, entrepreneurs are rolling up their sleeves to grow businesses and create jobs.  Workers are learning new skills and putting their shoulders to the wheel of economic growth.  By our collective efforts, more Ohioans are going back to work and ensuring further opportunities for their children.  The diverse people of Ohio who are hard-working, inventive and compassionate are this state’s great strength.  Through their efforts Ohio’s best days are ahead.
On this Independence Day, let’s wear red, white and blue, enjoy some time with loved ones and celebrate all that America has to offer.  Let’s also take this opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the responsibility we have inherited as Americans.  As brave men and women did 238 years ago, let our generation pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to this most noble endeavor, the United States of America.  I hope you and your family have a safe and memorable Independence Day weekend.
