COLUMBUS — State Senator Frank LaRose has been named Chairman of the Senate Public Safety, Local Government & Veterans Affairs Committee for the 130th General Assembly. He was also named Vice-Chairman of the Public Utilities Committee, a panel he served on during the last legislative session. In these roles, he will help guide policy discussion covering a wide range of issues affecting Ohio’s safety forces, veterans and local governments.

“My committee assignments will allow me to impact those areas of state policy that are of great interest to my constituents, especially safety issues and how state government and local governments interact,” LaRose said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues as we discuss policies and initiatives that will make the critical changes necessary to create a bright future for our communities and our state, as well as the essential public utilities on which our families and businesses rely.”

LaRose previously served on the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee, the Energy and Public Utilities Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the State and Local Governments and Veterans Affairs Committee. Senate President Keith Faber (R- Celina) restructured the Senate Committees earlier this month to more closely align them with the chamber’s legislative priorities and maximize the knowledge and experience of members.

LaRose was also named a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Transportation Committee, the State Government Oversight & Reform Committee, the Criminal Justice Committee and the budget-writing Finance Committee. He is also a member of the newly-created Finance Subcommittee on Medicaid. As the state budget will be the main legislative priority for the first half of this year, the subcommittee will enable members to more deeply examine proposals regarding Ohio’s Medicaid program – which the Governor’s Administration is planning to establish as a standalone agency as part of the budget.

A decorated Army veteran, LaRose lives with his wife Lauren and their 18-month-old daughter in Copley Township.
