The proposed license plate benefiting the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies

State Senator Peggy Lehner (R-Kettering) this week announced the passage of legislation to create the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies License Plate, with contributions collected from the sale of the plate helping to promote the provision of services to children, young adults,  families and the community agencies that serve them.

"These agencies provide pivotal services that our communities depend on and I'm proud that funds from the OACCA license plate will go to benefit their mission," said Lehner. "Locally, agencies such as Agape for Youth, CHOICES, Inc., South Community, and Eastway will be able to use this investment to reach the children and families who need it most."

$25 of each license plate will go to the association to advance its mission statewide, providing essential support to dozens of Ohio’s leading community providers and the thousands of children and young adults entrusted with their care.

The OACCA is the oldest statewide child advocacy organization in the state, comprised of 91 community agencies serving at-risk youth with the support they need to succeed.

Providing Increased Access to Nutritious Summer Meals:

Also passed this week by the Ohio Senate was Senate Bill 247, sponsored by Senator Lehner, to increase access to nutritious meals for children during the summer months when free and reduced price meals through school programs are not available.

"Far too many children do not receive the proper amount of food or level of nutrition that they need when school is out for the summer," said Lehner. "This will be a major step in meeting those needs by continuing to provide nutritious meals to students year-round, not just during school months."

Summer food service program sponsors will be able to use school facilities to provide food service for summer intervention programs and qualifying schools will establish breakfast and lunch programs to meet the needs of children in that area.
