Columbus -
State Senator Peggy Lehner (R - Kettering) was honored yesterday by the Easter Seals National Board of Directors with this year's Outstanding Advocate Award for a State Official. Lehner accepted the award while attending the organization's national convention which was being held in Washington, D.C.

The annual award highlights officials at the state level whose work and personal examples have made a significant difference in the lives of people with disabilities. Cited among her advocacy efforts was Lehner's bipartisan work during this year's budget process to extend the Home First provision to people with disabilities under the age of 60 who are also eligible for Medicaid waivers.

Amy Lutrell, President of the Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley chapter, touted the legislator's recent work and support for the organization. "Senator Peggy Lehner has long been an advocate for children and adults with disabilities and the elderly," said Lutrell. "She understands that people of all abilities want to live, learn, work and play in their communities."

Following the awards ceremony, Lehner reiterated her commitment to Ohio's disabled and elderly.

"Legislators and stakeholders must work together to ensure that all people have a say when it comes to their quality of care," Lehner said. "I am grateful for this honor and hope to continue working with Easter Seals in order to further advance their mission and advocacy efforts."
