COLUMBUS - Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) reappointed State Senator Peggy Lehner (R-Kettering) today to serve as Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Education.
The Senate Education Committee is charged with overseeing Ohio’s primary education system including standards and regulations managed by the Ohio Department of Education. The committee also makes recommendations to the full senate on the advice and consent of certain governor’s appointments.
“I am honored to be reappointed as Senate Education Chair,” said Lehner. “I look forward to continuing to work with Ohio’s many fine teachers and education leaders across the state, along with my colleagues in the Senate, to ensure all students—from preschool to college graduates—have access to the highest quality school system in the nation.”
During her time in the legislature, Senator Lehner demonstrated a passion for the well being of children through her role as a co-chair of the Ohio Children’s Caucus, a bipartisan, bicameral organization of legislators committed to advancing the health and well being of Ohio’s children through unified legislative action. Senator Lehner has also been at the forefront of efforts to align K-12 education with college and career readiness, working with stakeholders from across the country to find innovative solutions to Ohio’s challenges and opportunities.

Senator Lehner is the recipient of various awards for her leadership on education issues including Legislator of the Year by the National Alliance of Public Charter Schools and the President's Award from the Buckeye Association of School Administrators.

Senator Lehner is a respected education leader both at the state and national levels. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the National Council of State Legislature's (NCSL) Committee on Education and is a member of the organization's International Education Study Group, which published a report in 2015 titled No Time to Lose, calling for significant reforms in U.S. education policy. In 2016, Lehner was selected to participate in the NCSL's Early Learning Fellows program as well as the prestigious Aspen Institute's summer workshop on The State Role in Ensuring Equity in Public Education.
