Honoring Our Teachers

Teachers play a vital role in the growth and development of our children. As an elementary school teacher of 37 years, I know just how much work teachers put into their jobs and the many successes and disappointments that come with the profession. National Teacher Day is May 5th, so I would like to encourage everyone to join me in thanking Ohio’s teachers for the work they do for our children.
Growing up, I was blessed with many fantastic teachers that made a lasting impact on my life. As a result, my decision to become a teacher was an easy one. Today, nothing brings me more joy than being contacted by former students and told that I made a difference in their lives.
All teachers differ in their teaching styles but one thing they each have in common is passion. Over the years, every teacher I’ve worked with has been truly passionate about helping their students develop academically and socially. After having children of my own, my respect for teachers has only continued to grow.
On May 5th, I encourage all Ohioans to think back to their childhood and recall a teacher that touched your life. Whether they encouraged you to try something new, or simply helped you along your path, we all have at least one teacher that helped make us who we are today. Please take the time to reach out to the teachers in our community and thank them for everything they’ve done and everything they continue to do.
If you would like to share a story of a teacher that shaped your life or have concerns or thoughts about any state matters, I encourage you to contact me. I can be reached by phone at (614) 644-7613, by email at Manning@OhioSenate.gov, or by writing State Senator Gayle Manning, 1 Capitol Square, 1st Floor, Columbus, OH 43215.
