Supporting Firefighters Battling Occupational Cancers

Today, the Ohio Senate also passed legislation that would recognize the increased risk of certain types of cancers among firefighters and provide these professionals the support they deserve following a career of public service. The legislation would grant firefighters the same benefits provided to firefighters in 37 other states by establishing a legal presumption of increased risk that allows firefighters to access benefits through the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation and Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.

"Our firefighters willingly enter harm's way every day to protect and serve Ohioans," said Manning. "As these heroes risk their lives to save others, this is an opportunity to provide the necessary support and benefits they have earned through their sacrifice."
