COLUMBUS -

State Senator Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) will hold a community forum on October 11 at Lorain County Community College to discuss local and state efforts to combat Ohio's opiate addiction crisis.

In 2014, Senator Manning initiated a series of reforms with the passage of Senate Bill 57 which created the Narcan Pilot Project, enabling emergency personnel to administer life-saving naloxone to individuals experiencing drug overdose. The success of the Narcan Pilot Project led to the state's decision to make naloxone available at retail pharmacies across Ohio in an effort to decrease the number of overdose deaths. Increasing the availability of naloxone has helped save countless lives and allows users a chance to get the necessary treatment to overcome their addiction.

Opiate addiction continues to be a serious challenge that affects virtually every community in Ohio. During the forum, members of the panel will provide a comprehensive overview of the strategies being implemented at both the state and local levels to address the problem of addiction.
