Cleveland—Today, State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) hosted a holiday food giveaway at the Glenville Elks Lodge in Cleveland, where she provided food to residents of her senate district who are in need of assistance.

The event, which was organized in conjunction with members of the Evelyn B. King/ Glenera Temple #21 and the Glenville Elks Lodge, aimed to provide nutritious food for the holidays to seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, children and displaced families.

"As a gift, I would like to provide families with some relief this season," said Senator Williams. "Winter and the holidays can add extra pressure to families, which is why this event is so important. We are here to help needy families at risk to go without a meal during the season."

Now in its 11th year, the annual food giveaway allows area families to conveniently pick up food at no cost. "It is an honor to be able to represent the citizens of my district and be able to give back and show my appreciation to them,” said Senator Williams. “This time of year it is especially important for the community to be united. We must be vigilant and check daily on elderly friends, relatives and neighbors who live alone, as well as those who are in need. Everyone deserves a nice holiday meal."
