COLUMBUS—Senate President Matt Huffman (R-Lima) reassured his commitment to the rights of parents regarding a recent recommendation by the CDC that children receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

Currently, the Ohio Revised Code establishes a list of vaccine requirements for children entering school, which can be found here.

“The COVID-19 vaccine is not part of Ohio’s childhood vaccination requirements and I am not in favor of adding it,” said President Huffman. “The Ohio Senate has no intention of making a change to the law.”

Ohio’s law allows for a student’s parent or guardian to decline to have their child immunized for reasons of conscience, including religious convictions.

“I am committed to making sure parents have the final say for their children’s medical decisions based on their health and family history,” said President Huffman.
