Sykes Applauds $7.4M Investment in Summit County Projects

This week, state Senator Dr. Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) commended the Ohio Senate’s passage of House Bill 687, the state Capital Budget that appropriates $7.4 million for economic development projects in Ohio’s 28th Senate District, which includes Summit County.
“Capital projects are a significant engine of economic development in Ohio,” said Senator Sykes, who serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee. “I am pleased with the diversity of community projects that received funding through the Capital Budget. These projects will make a number of improvements in my district in Summit County and across the state.”
Local projects in the bill include:
• Akron Area YMCA Camp Y-Noah
• Akron Art Museum Center for Creative Learning
• Akron Rehabilitation Services Renovation
• Akron Zoo Additional Animal Housing
• CHC Addiction Services
• Cranz Farm at Hale Farm and Village
• International Soap Box Derby
• Stan Hywet Hall & Garden
• Summit County Fairgrounds
The Capital Budget includes $3.51 billion in funding for capital improvement projects throughout Ohio. It also provides roughly $1.2 billion to support the Intel semiconductor project. The bill now heads to Governor DeWine for his signature.
