Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) released the following statement after the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in a 4-3 vote that the congressional map adopted by Republican members of the Ohio Redistricting Commission on March 2, 2022 are unconstitutional: “The Court has made it clear that Republicans have repeatedly used the redistricting process to give themselves an unfair advantage. In doing so, they have jeopardized the sanctity of our elections. Once again, we are ready to follow the law and give Ohioans the fair maps they demanded. We hope this time our Republican colleagues will join us instead of trying to run out the clock.” The court gave the legislature 30 days to adopt a new congressional map for use beginning in the 2024 election cycle. If the legislature fails to act, the Ohio Redistricting Commission will then have 30 days to adopt a new congressional map.
