COLUMBUS – Today, the NCAA acted to allow temporary name, image, and likeness rights for student athletes, following states acting to provide these rights in law. The NCAA action is a temporary rule and could be changed at any time.
State Senator Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg) released the following statement regarding this NCAA action:
“The NCAA today acted in a show of utter weakness and lackluster leadership, only voting to provide name, image, and likeness rights to student athletes after a variety of states passed laws providing these name, image, and likeness rights, including mine in Ohio. I am extremely happy we were able to get name, image, and likeness rights into law yesterday by the July 1 deadline, to ensure student athletes have these rights in law, and aren’t subjected to the wimpy and feeble leadership of the NCAA who could change their mind at any time.”
