Manning Announces Brownfield Grants for Huron and Lorain Counties
April 26, 2022

COLUMBUS—State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announced multiple grants for local communities in Huron and Lorain County as part of the new Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program.

A brownfield site is defined as an abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial, commercial, or institutional property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by known or potential releases of hazardous substances or petroleum. The program is designed to provide grants for the remediation of brownfield sites across Ohio to clean up the sites and prepare them for future economic development.

The following entities received funding:

  • Huron County Land Reutilization Corporation (Huron): $77,000 for two projects

  • Avon Lake (Lorain): $300,000

  • Elyria Block Development LLC (Lorain): $590,000

  • City of Lorain (Lorain): $4,221,649 for two projects

  • Shewango Valley High, LLC (Lorain): $300,000

“Ohio is moving forward economically, and redeveloping brownfield sites is crucial to recruit and build new businesses across the state,” said Manning. “Huron and Lorain County will benefit immensely from these grants as long-standing vacant properties will be cleaned up and demolished for new developments that enhance the local economy and protect the health and safety of residents. I was proud to support House Bill 110, which made this program possible.”

Additional grants will be awarded as part of this program in the coming months.
