Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) was elected to serve Lakewood, Cleveland and Ohio's 23rd Senate District in November, 2010. He comes from the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served four terms as the Representative for Ohio's 13th House District. After graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business and political science from Walsh College, Skindell earned his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He represented the people of Lakewood as a Councilman at Large between 1998 and 2002.

02.17.17 - Senator Skindell Introduces Bicycle Helmet Bill

 

COLUMBUS - Today, Senator Michael Skindell (D-Lakewood) introduced Senate Bill 59, which would require bicycle operators and passengers less than 18 years of age to wear bicycle helmets on roadways. It would also establish the Bicycle Safety Fund to assist low-income families in purchasing bicycle helmets.

 
 

02.14.17 - Senator Michael Skindell Introduces Ohio Patient Protection Act

 

COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Michael Skindell (D- Lakewood) will re-introduce the Ohio Patient Protection Act. This bill, Senate Bill 55, would increase patient safety by setting limits on the number of patients a registered nurse (RN) may care for at one time. The nurse-to-patient ratio requirements would be based on the seriousness of the condition being treated or the medical procedure that each respective patient is undergoing. 

 
 

02.06.17 - Senator Skindell Introduces Income Tax Reform Bill To Assist Struggling Ohioans

 

COLUMBUS - Today, Senator Michael Skindell (D–Lakewood) introduced Senate Bill 35, which reforms Ohio's Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to assist struggling Ohioans.  When passed in 2013, after years of advocacy by Senator Skindell, Ohio's EITC contained a cap and was not refundable.  Senate Bill 35 makes the tax credit stronger by removing the income restrictions and making it refundable.
