Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) issued the following statement criticizing Governor Mike DeWine for signing Senate Bill 175, which includes the so-called Stand-Your-Ground law.
“I am extremely disappointed in Governor DeWine’s decision to sign Stand Your Ground into law. This is a dangerous bill that will put Ohioans’ lives at risk. This is not what people meant when they asked us to 'do something' last year after the deadly mass shooting in Dayton. Democrats will continue to fight for commonsense gun reform, but today is a sad day.”
Last month, all members of the
Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus urged the governor to veto the controversial legislation, which removes the duty to retreat in almost all public spaces in Ohio.
