COLUMBUS - Columbus-Today the Ohio Senate approved the state’s new Transportation Budget, which funds transportation and highway projects around the state.

The nearly $13.5 billion, biennial budget is funded with Motor Fuel Taxes (MFT), more commonly called gas tax revenue.

Among various critical infrastructure improvements, the Senate worked diligently to pass other provisions including:

•    New rail safety guidance following the derailment of toxic chemicals in East Palestine earlier this year.  Conversations and policy around rail safety is ongoing as the Senate’s Select Committee on Rail Safety continues its series of meetings.

•    More local control for local governments to have discretion over force account limits for infrastructure construction in their jurisdictions.

“The state’s Transportation Budget is one of the most critical pieces of legislation that the General Assembly has the responsibility of crafting and passing,” said State Senator George Lang (R-West Chester). “Ohio is the land of logistics.  Being the state with the second largest number of bridges, the fifth highest volume of traffic, and the eighth largest roadway network, nationwide, this budget is crucial to keeping businesses humming, the workforce flowing, and Ohioans safe on the roads.”
