COLUMBUS - Last week, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that more than 1,000 grants will be distributed to K-12 individual school buildings and districts for school security improvements.
In Butler County, Lakota and Fairfield schools are among the top 5 of schools granted the largest amounts of funding with Lakota receiving $950,000 and Fairfield receiving $350,000.
"Our kids must have a safe place to learn and develop, and these grants will help ensure the safety and security of our children while in school," said State Senator George Lang (R-West Chester) celebrating this announcement. "I am proud of the steps the Legislature has taken over the last several years to better secure our schools and thankful to Governor DeWine for his commitment to protecting Ohio's students."
Funds are issued through the K-12 School Safety Grant Program established in 2021, and are used to cover expenses associated with physical security enhancements such as security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks, visitor badging systems, and exterior lighting.
