Lang Champions Long-Term Commitment to Adoptive Families
COLUMBUS - State Senator George Lang (R-West Chester) today joined his Senate colleagues in passing House Bill 45, which turns a current adoption tax credit into a grant program for families who choose to adopt a child.
"Continued commitments to foster and adoption programs are near to my heart as someone who spent his early life in foster care," Lang said. "I consider myself a pro-life legislator because of my background and ensuring that loving families have the resources they need to adopt is one of my key priorities."
The new Adoption Grant Program, which begins in 2023, will provide one-time grants for traditional adoption, foster care adoption, and special needs adoption.
Families adopting a child will be eligible for a $10,000 grant, families adopting out of foster care will be eligible for a $15,000 grant, and families adopting a child with special needs will be eligible for a $20,000 grant. The bill also ensures that adopted children are eligible to receive a one-time $2,500 grant to go to a two-year or four-year public or private institution of higher education.
