Lang Supports Flat Tax in Bold Budget Plan
COLUMBUS —State Senator George Lang (R-West Chester) strongly supports the flat tax measure enacted in the two-year Operating Budget. Currently, there are only two state income tax brackets, down from nine in 2015. Under this budget, the top bracket of 3.5% will drop to 3.125% in tax year ’25, followed by the implementation of a 2.75% flat tax for tax year ’26.
"A flat tax has been a priority of mine since day one of my time in the legislature and, in my opinion, is a critical aspect of this budget that will propel our state’s economy forward," said Lang. “This budget is fiscally conservative, ambitious, and continues Ohio’s commitment to become the most business-friendly state in the country and the economic engine of the Midwest once again.”
The Senate’s budget also maintains the tax break for Ohioans earning up to $26,050. They will pay ZERO state income tax.
The Operating budget also includes a $7 million grant to Miami University to establish the Ohio Institute for Quantum Computing Research, Talent, and Commercialization.
