Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus), a member of the Ohio Retirement Study Council (ORSC), released the following statement after each system reported on the status of their Russian holdings and the Council voted to require Ohio’s five public pension systems – the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, the State Teachers Retirement System, the School Employees Retirement System, the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund and the Ohio Highway Patrol Retirement System – to report their progress and process on Russian divestiture at the next ORSC meeting:
“We must all be clear in our support for Ukraine. While I know the current closure of Russia’s stock market prevents our pension systems from divesting at this time, I appreciate their commitment to move swiftly to condemn Russia’s violent invasion by divesting their holdings when the time comes. I commend the ORSC and the pension systems for starting this conversation and working to develop plans for our pension systems to divest as soon as they are able to in a manner that continues to fulfill their fiduciary duty to active and retired members.”
