Today, state Senator Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State address.
“I was encouraged to hear Governor DeWine talk about the importance of addressing challenges impacting our kids and families – especially early childhood education and infant mortality. Right now, only 40 percent of our kids entering kindergarten are prepared for the classroom. And this gap can permanently set them behind. That’s why investing in quality early education is so critical to the success of our kids and our state.
Also, I was happy to hear him address Ohio’s infant mortality rate. Ohio is 49th in the country for infant mortality and that is unacceptable. I hope to work with Governor DeWine to tackle these challenges and other issues affecting our kids, as my primary focus is on creating ladders of opportunity for every child across the state.”
