Craig Condemns Concurrence of Senate Bill 1

Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) condemned the Ohio Senate’s concurrence of Senate Bill 1, also known as the “Higher Education Destruction Act.”

“Despite minor improvements in the House, this legislation continues to be deeply troubling,” said Craig. “This bill is harmful to our students, faculty, and all Ohioans. We should be creating opportunities to make Ohio a better place to live and learn, not pushing students and faculty away from Ohio.”

Between the bill’s committee hearings in the Senate and House of Representatives, S.B. 1 received over 1,700 testimony submissions opposing the legislation, compared to less than 50 submissions in support. Senate Bill 1 jeopardizes the future of higher education in Ohio by driving away students, faculty, and critical business partnerships.

Senate Bill 1 now heads to Governor Mike DeWine for his signature.
