Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) gave sponsor testimony on Senate Bill 95, which would designate a portion of I-71 in Columbus as “Chief of Police James G. Jackson Memorial Highway.”

“Chief Jackson was an incredible man,” said Senator Craig. “I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to know the Chief and his family over the years. He is a true icon and will be dearly missed. As an extraordinary mentor and visionary leader, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of police officers and the residents of this city, state, and nation.”

Chief Jackson passed away earlier this year. He served the City of Columbus for over 50 years, becoming the first African American Chief of Police within the division. If S.B. 95 is passed, the portion of I-71 between I-670 and Hudson Street in Columbus will be designated in honor of Chief Jackson.
