Craig Hosts Juneteenth Flag Raising at Ohio Statehouse
Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) hosted a Juneteenth program and flag-raising ceremony.
“For Black Americans, Juneteenth is more than a historical date. It is a testament to resilience, a celebration of survival, and a recognition of the generations who endured unimaginable hardship while never abandoning hope in a better future,” said Craig. “Holding this event in the people’s house affirms that the history of Black Americans is inseparable from the history of Ohio and our nation, and reminds us that the pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice remains a shared responsibility for all generations.”
Senator Craig was joined by members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, community leaders, and local advocates for racial justice.
Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the former Confederate states. Juneteenth is also a celebration of the heritage, culture, and extraordinary achievements of Black Americans in every field of human endeavor.
