Craig Sworn into Office as State Senator

Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) took the oath of office to serve his first term in the Ohio Senate during the 133rd General Assembly.
“I’m excited to have the honor to serve such a distinct and vibrant district,” said Senator Craig, who will represent the 15th Senate district, which includes Columbus, Bexley, Hilltop, Grandview Heights and part of Clinton Township. “Representing such a culturally and economically diverse area of the state allows me to bring a unique perspective to the Statehouse. I am thrilled to continue working on bettering not only the lives of Columbus residents, but all Ohioans.
“I believe the state needs to promote economic policies that create ladders of opportunity for all Ohioans. As a member of the Infant Mortality Commission, I really want to make sure we are addressing the critical needs and challenges for our families. Additionally, I want to continue my work on issues surrounding poverty. By providing a helping hand to others, we can see benefits to everyone across Ohio.”
Craig has most recently represented the 26th Ohio House district for two two-year terms. As a state Representative, he served on the House Aging and Long-Term Care, Public Utilities, and Financial Institutions, Housing, and Urban Development committees and was ranking member of the House Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committee. He was a member of the Columbus City Council from 2007 to 2014, where he served as President Pro Tempore and led the Veterans Affairs committee. He was also the chairman of the Public Utilities, Housing and Human Services, Parks and Recreation and Judiciary committees.
