Timken Announces Tax Credit Awards For Stark County Films
COLUMBUS—State Senator Jane Timken (R-Jackson Township) announced that the Ohio Department of Development has awarded over $15 million in tax credits for film production in Stark County.
"These tax credits are not just an investment in film production," said Senator Timken. "These tax credits are an investment in Stark County, and the economic effects will cascade from hotels to restaurants to grocery stores."
These grants were approved under the Motion Picture Tax Credit program, with a total of $46 million to support film and television production across Ohio. The four awards for Stark County productions are:$8.48 million for the production of "Sunny," a movie being filmed in Canton.
$3.66 million for the production of "10 Cent," a movie being filmed in North Canton.
$3.07 million for the production of "The Christmastyme," a movie being filmed in North Canton.
$758 thousand for the production of season two of "Sugarcreek Amish," a TV miniseries being filmed in Canton.
Under the Motion Picture Tax Credit program, productions can receive a refundable tax credit of 30 percent on cast and crew wages and other in-state spending. It is open to feature-length films, documentaries, pre-Broadway productions, miniseries, video games, and music videos.
According to the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, the economic impact of the Ohio Film Production Tax Credit program is much higher than the grant amount. The GCFM found that these tax credits led to 1.4 billion dollars in economic output and the creation of over 7,100 jobs since its enactment in 2009.
