COLUMBUS—State Senator Jane Timken (R-Jackson Township) honored the Washington Highschool Boys Basketball team for winning the Division II state championship and the Mount Union Engineering Team for taking first place at an international Student Hardware Design Competition.
“The students of Stark County showcase what you can achieve with hard work and determination,” said Senator Timken. I am proud to honor and commemorate their accomplishments.”
On March 22nd, the Massillon Tigers Boys Basketball team brought home their first State Championship title. Winning 68-63 in overtime, the Massillon Tigers beat the reigning state champions, Westerville North, after overcoming a 15-point deficit in the third quarter. Head Coach Josh Hose led the team to victory after an impressive 22-game winning streak that season.
The Mount Union Engineering Team took home a championship of their own, winning first place at an international Student Hardware Design Competition at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Electromagnetic Compatibility Society Symposium in August. The team was tasked with designing and building a machine to locate hidden radio transmitters and found all three transmitters in the fastest time. The group was advised by Dr. Glauco Fontgalland, an associate professor of computer and electrical engineering.
Senator Timken joins all of Stark County in celebrating the accomplishments of both teams.
