Timken Praises Override Of Property Tax Reform Veto
COLUMBUS—State Senator Jane Timken (R-Jackson Township) joined her Senate colleagues in voting to override Governor DeWine's veto of property tax reforms passed by the Senate in June. The override vote restored restrictions on the use of complicated and confusing levies.
“Property tax reform was a priority for my colleagues and I when drafting the state budget,” said Senator Timken. “Today I voted for what will, hopefully, be the first of many overrides to reform property taxes and bring the system back to what it was originally intended to be.”
Following the passage of the Operating Budget, House Bill 96, Governor DeWine vetoed 67 sections. One provision restricted subdivisions from pursuing certain types of levies including, but not limited to, replacement and substitute emergency levies.
"There is no world where complicated and confusing levies should be on Ohioan's ballots," added Senator Timken. "This override enacts common sense property tax reform to establish the transparency and relief that Ohioans deserve."
Levies currently in place, or on the November 2025 ballot, will not be affected by this restriction.
