House Passes Roegner Bill Improving Efficiency of Boards and Commissions

COLUMBUS—State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) announced today that the Ohio House passed Senate Bill 331, improving the efficiency of state and local government by reauthorizing active boards and commissions while sunsetting those that are inactive or no longer necessary.
"This legislation is critical to ensure that Ohio’s active boards and commissions are able to continue doing their important work for the next four years, and also efficiently purges those boards and commissions that are no longer necessary," said Roegner, who serves as the Chair of the Sunset Review Committee. "Thank you to my colleagues in the House for passing this important legislation."
The Sunset Review Committee is currently tasked with reviewing Ohio’s boards and commissions every other biennium to determine which boards and commissions are no longer needed, and which should be reauthorized for an additional four years. Senate Bill 331 would also restructure the Sunset Review process from convening every other biennium to meeting once every General Assembly to review half of all boards and commissions. This change will assist in the scheduling process for the committee, while still ensuring that all boards and commissions will still be reviewed every four years.
