Roegner Praises USMCA as Great Deal for Ohio's Economy

COLUMBUS—In response to President Donald Trump signing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) today, State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) issued the following statement:
“Today’s signing of USMCA is a historic step in ensuring economic prosperity for our nation. Ohio exports more than $50 billion of manufactured goods to our partners to the north and south yearly, and that trade supports nearly 500 thousand jobs. The USMCA protects those jobs by allowing our agricultural and industrial sectors to flourish. Moreover, its protections for intellectual property rights, while also cutting red tape, will spur new innovation in our small business community.”
The agreement replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement, creating a more level playing field for American workers, removing barriers for small businesses, and encouraging more goods and materials to be manufactured in the United States. It will also strengthen the food and agriculture trade between the three countries and create new protections for U.S. intellectual property. The U.S. International Trade Commission estimates that USMCA will increase the United States' GDP by $68.2 billion and create 176,000 jobs, including 76,800 jobs in the U.S. automotive industry.
