Roegner Voices Concerns About Proposed Cincinnati Rail Line Sale to Norfolk Southern
COLUMBUS—State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) issued the following statement today regarding public safety and a potential sale of a rail line to Norfolk Southern following the devastating derailment in East Palestine, Ohio:
"Buried in the Transportation Budget is a provision that would permit the sale of the Cincinnati Southern Railroad. Yesterday, I discovered that the only buyer, although not explicitly mentioned in the bill, is Norfolk Southern. The Ohio General Assembly should wait for the results of the NTSB investigation, our own Ohio Senate Select Rail Safety Committee findings, and, most importantly, satisfactory improvements made to rail safety in Ohio before even considering approving this sale. The health and safety of our communities must be our priority.”
