Senate Passes Legislation Expanding Career Opportunities for Ohio's Nurses

COLUMBUS—State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) today announced the Senate passage of Senate Bill 3, which would join Ohio with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). The NLC is an agreement between member states which would make available to eligible residents one multistate license allowing them the ability to practice in all member states.
"Reducing unnecessary or redundant licensure restrictions is critical for attracting and retaining high quality professionals in Ohio," said Roegner, sponsor of Senate Bill 3. "Today's vote moves us one step closer to improving economic mobility for nurses and provides a boost to access and quality of care for everyday Ohioans."
The NLC expands economic opportunity for Ohio’s nurses by giving them the flexibility to provide care to patients located in other Compact states without having to obtain additional licenses through a costly and time-consuming process. 34 states have already joined the NLC, including neighboring states like Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia. The bill is supported by many organizations including, but not limited to: AARP Ohio, Akron Children’s Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic, the Ohio Hospital Association, and the University Hospital Health System.
Senate Bill 3 will now go to the Ohio House of Representatives for additional consideration.
