COLUMBUS—State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) announced today that the Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 272, which will enable Ohio to join the Physical Therapy Compact, allowing eligible physical therapists to work in multiple states. Under the bill, residents of Physical Therapy Compact states are able to purchase a compact privilege in a member state and begin to practice physical therapy in other compact states almost immediately.
"Improving physical therapy licensure mobility strengthens Ohio's economy by drawing in qualified workers from other states, as well as expanding Ohioans access to this form of health care," Roegner said. "Senate Bill 272 is incredibly important and lifts licensure restrictions on many of our health care workers."
The Physical Therapy Compact is an agreement currently between 20 member states including Virginia, Missouri, Texas, Washington and Colorado, among others. An additional eight more, including New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Georgia have enacted legislation to join the compact, but are not yet participating.
Senate Bill 272 will now go to the House for consideration.
