COLUMBUS—State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) and Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) today announced the Senate passage of Senate Bill 18. The legislation aims to streamline the tax filing process for Ohio's workers and businesses by conforming Ohio income tax law with recent federal changes.
"With an already complex tax season, further complicated by the pandemic, it is vital we make these adjustments to ensure Ohio taxpayer's best interests are protected," said Roegner. "I am delighted that SB18 passed the Senate unanimously today, and am hopeful it will pass the House in the same manner."
Specifically, the legislation incorporates into Ohio law various changes to federal tax law that have taken effect since March 27, 2020. Several of these changes directly impact the tax base for either Ohio's workers or businesses. Continuity between state and federal law is crucial for streamlining the filing process.
Senate Bill 18 will now go to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
