STATEMENT: Senator Roegner on The Human Life Protection Act

COLUMBUS—State Senators Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) and Sandra O'Brien (R-Ashtabula) today provided sponsor testimony on Senate Bill 123, the Human Life Protection Act.
Senate Bill 123 would prohibit a person from intentionally causing an abortion, by any means, while ensuring a woman, on whom an abortion was performed, is protected from prosecution. The enactment of this legislation is contingent on certain acts by the federal government, overturning Roe v. Wade.
Senator Roegner issued the following statement on the bill:
"Ohio is a pro-life state, and the Human Life Protection Act would further solidify this legacy. We are optimistic that the United States Supreme Court will soon recognize the sanctity of all human life and overturn the previously flawed decision of Roe v. Wade. The Human Life Protection Act will ensure that Ohio stands ready to protect future generations of Ohioans with the full force of law the moment this happens.
Yesterday, the Ohio Statehouse was filled with protestors, some of whom wore t-shirts that read ‘I love abortion.' A baby’s life, its smile, its touch is something to love. We celebrate the birth of a child, we celebrate expectant moms— abortion is not something to celebrate. Abortion should not be a partisan issue. Even my democrat colleagues in the Senate unanimously voted to pass SR41, a resolution urging Congress to pass the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This vote last General Assembly acknowledged that a baby outside of the womb, is the same baby that lives within the womb.
