Koehler Commends Expansion of Pell Grants
COLUMBUS— State Senator Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) commends the U.S. House and Senate for expanding Pell Grants in U.S. House Resolution 1 to include short-term job training programs.
“I applaud Congress on making this necessary change and look forward to the positive effect it will have on Ohio's workforce,” said Senator Koehler. “Expansion of this program addresses the needs of employers searching for a highly trained workforce. For students who choose not to attend or cannot afford college, short-term Pell Grants provide an opportunity to further their career without a degree.”
As U.S. Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) said regarding the program's expansion: "We have employers all over the state, certainly here in Southeast Ohio, who need CNC machinists, auto technicians and diesel mechanics. Now you can use Pell Grants to pay for all of these kinds of programs... and go right to work."
The Workforce Pell Grant Program, also known as “short-term Pell,” expands federal financial aid eligibility to students enrolled in job training programs lasting between eight and 15 weeks. The program is aimed at making workforce training more affordable and accessible for students who desire to quickly improve their skills.
