COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed the budget correction bill, Amended Substitute House Bill 479, which included property tax relief for Ohioans in need.

Am. Sub HB 479 provides $350 million in property tax relief to roughly 710,000 Ohioans in the Homestead Exemption program. This group of Ohioans includes low-income senior citizens, totally disabled individuals, 100% disabled military veterans, and surviving spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty.

This one-time relief comes as a result of unexpected revenue this financial year and is very similar to a bill previously sponsored by State Senator Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield), SB 356.

“Just like the measure I introduced earlier this year, this legislation acknowledges that we should help our neighbors in need,” said Senator Koehler. “This is a smart and responsible use of the extra revenue, and I'm thrilled to see the legislature providing property tax relief to our Homestead recipients."

The Ohio Senate and Ohio House passed the bill and sent it to Governor DeWine for his approval. The bill's progress can be followed here
