COLUMBUS—State Senator Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) will compete in the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus at the Ohio Expo Center which begins this weekend.

The All American Quarter Horse Congress is the world's largest horse show, with more than 28,000 entries annually. Held each fall at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, the Congress welcomes more than 500,000 people and generates more than $426 million in annual economic impact for central Ohio.

I look forward to competing with the horse that I've trained and raised since he was born on my farm in 2006, said Senator Koehler. Competing against hundreds of horses from all over the country is exciting. While I've been competing in speed competitions in Southern Ohio for the last dozen years, I've never entered the AQHA Congress. Now that I'm 65 years old, I want to knock this off my bucket list while I still can.

The Quarter Horse Congress is expected to draw between 4,000 to 6,000 registered American Quarter Horses from all over the country, along with some of the best trainers in the world.

My goal is to be in the top five of the 3rd Division in the Poles Class and the top five of the 4th Division in the Barrels class on Wednesday morning, September 30th, continued Koehler. There will be 220 of the best barrel racers from all over the country. I just want to see if my horse can hang with them. The entire goal is to ride as fast as you can and still complete the two patterns.

Senator Koehler notes that he is unaware of any other members of the Ohio General Assembly to have competed at this level in the Quarter Horse Congress.
