Romanchuk Announces Water Infrastructure Improvements Grants for Ashland County

COLUMBUS— State Senator Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) is announcing $618,110 in two water infrastructure grants benefiting 4,247 people in Ashland County. The money will fund projects to replace aging and overwhelmed infrastructure, helping ensure residents have access to clean drinking water and sanitary sewage systems.

"These critical improvements will enhance the quality of life for thousands of people in Ashland County," said Romanchuk. "This will help economic growth in the county by encouraging greater business expansion and housing development while reducing the financial burden on our communities."

  *   The City of Ashland will receive a $550,000 grant for a sanitary sewer improvements project along US Route 250. Project activities will include replacing approximately 1,080 feet of 12-inch sanitary sewer main with 15-inch piping, and relocating an existing 8-inch main to the existing relief sewer as well as removing groundwater infiltration. This project is designed to eliminate sewer surcharges and accommodate recent and planned residential developments. The project will benefit 2,500 people.

  *   The Troy Township Waste Water District will receive a $68,110 to upgrade pumps at the lagoons and build a storage/meeting room building. The project will benefit 1,747 people.

These projects are funded by a $135 million grant announced by Governor DeWine that will support 90 critical water infrastructure projects in 64 counties throughout the state. These grants are part of the fifth round of the Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) water infrastructure program. Since its inception, the program has provided nearly $500 million to support 343 local water projects in each of Ohio’s 88 counties.
